What is SAH

Support at Home is an Australian Government-funded aged care program designed to help older people live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. It officially began on 1 November 2025, replacing the previous Home Care Packages Program and the Short-Term Restorative Care Program.

The program provides a coordinated approach to care, which can be particularly helpful if you need assistance with many everyday tasks or have more complex care needs. It also introduces a defined list of services and a structured funding model to improve access to care.

How does it work?

If you are approved for Support at Home, you are assigned a classification from 1 to 8 based on your assessed care needs. This determines your funding level. You then choose a service provider and work with them to decide on a mix of services that best fits your needs and budget. You can change this mix at any time or request a reassessment if your needs change.

People aged 65 and over

This is the main group the program is designed for.

Exceptions for younger people
